Welcome Welcome to dodoHelp! Here, I (dodoredofamelinda) have made a webpage to try and answer all of your questions about Marapets, and also to try to help you in any way possible. The webpage is not quite finished yet, so please bear with me until I am done! I have currently finished the Programming section. I have chosen the particular layout of one huge page because I thought it might be easier for me to make and easier for you to navigate. I hope it serves this purpose well! |

Credits I'd just like to give credit to a couple of people for assisting me in the creation of this webpage. Among those people are: Melody - for her utmost support, as well as her help and assistance in htmling...For teaching me the basics in html and javascript. Thank you for being so utterly patient with me. Lissa - for making an awesome website that I brush up html on. I constantly go back to figure out how to do this, or that when all else fails. Deanna - Thanks for being my cousin and helping me so much! Your unlimited knowledge of html was extremely helpful... Daisy - for just being there when no one else is. |

Here are some introductions to various things in Marapets or out of Marapets that will help you along the way. This is more for Newer Members, but older members can also read through this and refresh their memory! They are in alphabetical order, but anyhow, below are the links to quickly get to where you want to be! Battling, Quests, and Missions

If you have already signed up for an account that is younger than 13 years old, you need not read this, although it might prove helpful in the future! Here, I will go through the benefits that come with being a certain age. If you are the age of 13 or above, you get to use clubs, maramail, and forums. In clubs, you can join the club of your choice and participate in the many events the leader usually holds, as well as talk and interact with your fellow club members in club chat. With maramail, you can message any member you choose, and reply to other people's maramails. With forums, you can post messages in certain threads that everyone will see, expressing your opinions, or even applying for a free pet!
If you are the age of 18 or above, you get one benefit. And that benefit is this. If you have purchased a few dollars of account upgrade credit, you may purchase the adult forum, which will allow you to chat with other adults who are your age.
|
Account Upgrades are probably the most fought over thing in all of Marapets, as most complain that it 'isn't fair', or whatnot. Basically, what these are, is stuff you buy on Marapets with real money. You can purchase these credits by either sending in mail, using paypal, or using google check-out. Mostly, Ian uses these Account Upgrades as a source of revenue for his site. How else would he get money?

Note to readers: I could easily have stuck this in as another Introduction, but I felt I shouldn't, as programming is quite unique, as well as graphics, but we'll get to that later. Programming as I know it is usually one of the following: Javascript/Java Visual Basic HTML (Hyper-Text Mark-up Language) I will not be teaching you the first two, just HTML, because it is the most commonly used one. I might add a Javascript/Java section later, but obviously, I must master both of those before I should teach others! Now what exactly are those three things? Well, let's get back to the definition of programming. Programming is what you type in so that the computer knows what action(s) you want carried out. HTML is one of those languages. This language can tell the computer to do ANYTHING you want! It designs marasite layouts, makes tables, etc. etc.! You won't understand what I'm talking about when I say that 'The options are endless' until you try for yourself! But a warning before you attempt to learn HTML: As I said before, the options are endless, but that also means that the list of things to memorize are also endless. It is pretty difficult to understand... If you happen NOT to understand, maramail me about it, and since you have already paid 50k to view this page, I will explain for free. But please do try to understand; I might get annoyed and charge! I don't say this to rip you off...it's just that there is always a lot of typing involved, and whenever someone doesn't understand, explaining is almost impossible!
|
A website is any page you might happen to find on the internet. Now, in HTML, the entire programming language is made up of a series of tags. Now, these tags are things that might look like: <br> And those are just a couple. It might seem very strange to you at first, but every single tag is some text in between < and >. Now, back to the basic layouts of websites. I'm sure you already figured out by now that websites are very complicated. But we will get more and more complex gradually. First, we'll start with the basics. Every website has these basic tags.
<html> Well, the <head> tag is an exception, but every good website usually has it. Anyhow, notice that there are three basic tags...
<html> As well as their closing tags...
</head> Okay so I'm gonna explain each tag one by one.
<html> Every bit of your html goes in here. No matter what kind of tag it is, it goes between these tags.
<head> Your heading goes in here. This includes any banner you might want...
<body> In here you put your main body of the website. This is basically everything...So think of the head as your title, and the body as your body :D So now, we move on to the harder things...
|
This section is going to be long; I can tell :P Okay, first of all, you must realize that there are at least a thousand different things you can do with your text. I will explain a couple of them. First of all, you must know one thing. And that is this: Anything outside of a tag will show up as actual text on the website. This means that for something like this, for example: <b><i><font face=comic sans MS size=3 color=#ffffff>White Text Is Cool</font></i></b> Only the text 'White Text Is Cool' will actually show up. Think of it this way: The computer reads the things inside < and > as what to do, while the things outside of < and > are what to put on the page. So whatever is in a tag tells the computer what should happen with the stuff outside of the tags. Now, the basics of text... Normal<b>Bold</b>Normal Normal<i>Italicised</i>Normal Normal<u>Underlined</u>Normal Make this... NormalBoldNormal NormalItalicisedNormal NormalUnderlinedNormal These...
Normal<strike>Strikethrough</strike> Normal<blink>Blink</blink>Normal NormalSubscriptNormal NormalSuperscriptNormal Make Normal NormalNormal NormalSubscriptNormal NormalSuperscriptNormal
I'm sure you unederstand the basics by now...Oh and there's one more thing that is pretty helpful. The <pre></pre> makes pre-formatted text. An example of this is... Without the <pre></pre> tags, this is what ASCII art might look like... /)/) (*.*) /( )\ (")(") Now, with the <pre></pre> tags... /)/) (*.*) /( )\ (")(")
It's a bunny!
Now that you understand that,
let's introduce you to spacing.
<br>
Makes a new line of
text. It's the equivalent of pressing 'Enter' on your motherboard. Because
without this tag, the computer will just read it as is...without the
spacing.
<hr>
Makes a horizontal rule
across the page. It looks like this...
However, you can also change the length of it with these add-ons...(Mind that the measurement is in pixels, which are very very small.) <hr width=20> <hr width=50>
<hr width=100 size=5> I hope you understand that now...
Next are paragraphs. Each new paragraph is marked with <p></p> So, your paragraph text goes in between. What those tags do is they indent your first line, and have an extra space in front and behind your paragraph. Anyhow, that is pretty much the basic stuff! Now we go on to color, font, and size. Text can be changed. And I'm not talking just about italics, bold, etc. I'm taking about the following:
All of these things are quite simple once you know how to do them... First let's do font type. For this, it's better to use a font that is rather well known, such as Times New Roman, Comic Sans MS, Verdana, or Arial. Those are more popular and it is more likely for that browser to support those fonts. Fancy fonts are less likely to show up properly, and that might result in a messed up feel of your site. How to change your font type? It's all very simple. You use the font tag with the face add-on. <font face="Verdana">TEXT HERE</font> Simple enough? Next...color. This is also quite simple. Refer to the HTML Color chart. Now, use this tag... <font color="COLORHERE">TEXT HERE</font> Make sure you have no spaces in between the name of the color, with the whole thing in quotations or if you use the hex code, remember to put the full code with a # in front of it in quotations. Finally, size. How to do it? Just use the scale from 1-7, one being the smallest and seven being the largest. Size 1 Size 2 Size 3 Size 4 Size 5 Size 6 Size 7 To make a Size 4 font, the tag would be <font size="4">Size 4</font> or change the number in between "" to the number you like. And finally, we're done! Congratulations, you know how to make text!

Tables Are Your Friends
Well, what are tables? Tables are organizational charts that look somewhat like this: They allow you to literally organize your information! Now, first, a bit of terminology. Table - Made of many different cells Cell - One 'box' in a table Row - All of the cells going horizontally across on one 'line' Column - All of the cells going vertically down on one 'line' Now, please remember all of these definitions, because they are all very important and will help you understand what I am talking about! Now, how to start a table? You use this tag... <table> to start, and this tag to end your table. </table> Simple enough? Now, we're finally done just that one tag! Next? Cells. You make a cell by using this tag <td> and close it by </td> Finally, rows. The tag for starting a new row is <tr> And when you're finished with the cells on that row, use this </tr> But be extremely careful! Because, the 'tr' tag only starts a new row. It DOES NOT make the cells! It is basically the equivalent of pressing 'Enter' on your keyboard. The actual words would be the cells. Got it? And your text goes between the <td></td> tags So a very simple example of a table might be
with four new rows, and eight separate cells.
<table><tr> Use the things from what you learnt in 'All About Text' to format the text. Now let's get a bit more in-depth. First, let's elaborate on the starting tag of 'table'. Let's start with background colors. You use this tag <table bgcolor="pink"> to add a background color to the entire table...not the separate cells, but to the background. If you look at the lovely color chart I have on the right, the actual background of the whole table is the rainbow picture. (Hint hint...bgcolor=background color.) Click for a full list of HTML Colors. (When you've picked the color you want, note that you can use either the color name or the hex code...) What if you want a background image? Then do this...
<table
background=http://i182. The finishing tag is always </table> Now cellspacing and cellpadding. Cellspacing is something that determines how far away the cells are from each other and from the table border. Cellpadding determines how far away the actual cell is from its border. Use these tags within the table tag... <table cellspacing="15"> <table cellpadding="4"> or whatever number you want (this is in pixels) to change it. Cellspacing is important and useful when you want to actually see the table background, such as in the color chart I have. The same applies to the finishing table tag as always. Now, for separate cells and their backgrounds. This is pretty much the same as with the whole table... <td bgcolor="#87CEEB"> <td background="IMAGE URL HERE"> Simple, right? And that, really, is the end of tables and how they are your friends.
|
Links, as well as bookmarks, are quite simple. But first, if you don't already know what they are in the first place, here's a little preview. Link - A link is something that literally links to another webpage Bookmark - A bookmark is something that links you to another spot on the same page. For example, if you click HERE, you will be directed to the very top of this page. That is a bookmark. An example of a Link, or, Hyperlink, is this. If you click HERE you will be directed to marapets.com Now, how do we make these things? They're really quite simple. The links are the easiest. All you have to do is use the following html code... <a href=URL HERE>Text for Hyperlink</a> Now let's pretend we want to make a link/hyperlink that links to the marapets.com page that you click the words 'Best Game Ever'. The html code would be <a href=http://www.marapets.com>Best Game Ever</a> which would make this... Got it now? Oh and one more thing...you can also change the font with the text options you learnt before. Now, bookmarks. These are quite complicated but still pretty easy to do once you get the hang of it. Firstly, you have to get the difference from what I call the bookmark source and the bookmark target. Now, what I call the bookmark source is what you click in the first place to get to another part of the screen. The bookmark target (of course these are not the official names, just things I use to help me remember) is where you get to when you click the source. Simple enough? Now, there are two parts in a bookmark. The first has to do with the bookmark source, and the next has to do with the bookmark target. Let's do the one that has to do with the bookmark target first. First, decide where you want to link to. Let's pretend I want to link to the top of my page. Then, where I see my title, 'dodoHelp', I would do something like this... <a name="top">dodoHelp</a> Now, what I did here was I had the original text outside of the < and >. So that is my title. Then, because I want to link to the actual word 'dodoHelp', I put the <a name="top"> and </a> around the text dodoHelp. That's all you need to know! Oh and one more thing...what you put next to name= is what you are calling that bookmark. So I could easily change that to title, and then when we get to the source,...oh I'll talk about that later. Finally, the actual bookmark source. This is also very simple. Use this tag... <a href=#"top">Back to Top</a> Along with the bookmark target to make your bookmark! Just remember that what you put next to href=# is the title of your bookmark target. What is outside of the > and < is what the visitor sees. And...one more thing. If you want to change what your bookmark looks like, just use the font stuff you learnt already! And there! That's all you need to know about bookmarks and links!
Really...what are you hanging around for? Don't you trust me?

Images are most likely the easiest thing you can do in HTML, besides text. All you have to do is this... Use the following tag, but replace 'URL' with the URL of your own image. Images from Google work nicely, if they are the only things on that page. (Search Google Images, then click the picture you want...then click 'see full size image'. That URL works perfectly fine.) <img src=URL> And that's all! But one more thing...If you want to change the dimensions of the image...to make it larger, smaller, or even distorted, do this... <img src=URL width=100> Or <img src=URL height=300> Will make your image the size you want. In both of those cases, the internet will automatically expand the other dimension (height or width) to the proper number of pixels so it is not distorted. "I want it distorted", you might say. In that case, enter both the width and height measurements...in pixels of course. So it might look like this... <img src=URL height=300 width=500> And the image could look like... Oh and no offense (really) to the stinky boys out there :D, but it's just a random pic :D Oh and I really don't mean the lying part. And now, color. I have made this huge table for you for this occasion. There are a two columns for each color. The one on the left is the name of the color, and the one on the left is the hexadecimal. The background color behind the name of the color is the actual color itself. For the darker colors I have used white for the text color, and for the lighter colors I have used black. You may use any of these colors in your background, font, etc. Whether you use the actual color name or hexadecimal code is completely up to you. I prefer hexadecimals, but that's just me and I'm crazy!! P.S. There are absolutely NO mistakes here! I have checked through dozens of times...But Contact Me if you have a problem.

I dislike frames with a passion, and will not go into them. If you really want to learn how to make a frame, search on the internet! It shouldn't be too hard... Now, Style Sheets. For some reason, I LOVE these things!!! Basically what a style sheet is is something that determines what the default text will look like, as well as what the side bars, and everything else looks like. I guess you could call it your theme. Anyhow...Style Sheets. I could technically make this section fill up 99% of the entire page, but I won't, partly because you won't read all of it, and partly because I don't wanna type that much. So...Let's begin.
When I say 'Style Sheets', I am referring to a type of scripting called CSS - Cascading Style Sheets. First of all, it's good to know that CSS goes best in between your 'head' and '/head' tags. To start off, you use <style type="text/css"> And to end, you use </style> Between those two tags, you put whatever you want. I will teach you two very important and yet simple things in CSS. One of them is changing the default font type, size, and color. This is technically not CSS, but it seems like it. You add this on to your 'body' tag. <body bgcolor="COLOR" text="COLOR" link="COLOR" vlink="COLOR" alink=COLOR> You just need one space between each one. You would fill in "COLOR" with a color you choose from the ever-useful Color Chart. Now, as you already know, the 'bgcolor' is the background color. This will be your background color for the entire website/page. The 'text' is the default normal text color, for example this pink font I'm using. 'Link' is the color of a default link, 'vlink' is a previously-visited link, and an 'alink' is an active link that you have just clicked on and is already directing you to the link destination. The last useful thing is changing the colors of the scrollbar.
<style> Oh yah...I forgot. You can have more than one 'style' tag within a webpage. Anyhow, I will illustrate my point using a simple picture. Click HERE to see it.

Have you ever gone to a website and they had a lovely contact form? (Look below at Contact Me for an example.) Don't you wish you could make one? Well, it's VERY easy! First of all, you have to know what is what. To start your form, you use: <form> And you end with: </form> Now...the actual components. A radio button looks like this. <INPUT TYPE="radio">Radio Button It's one of those things where you can have a zillion buttons, but can only select one. Now, if you take a look at the radio button I just showed you, you CANNOT select it! No matter how many millions of times you click, the little dot won't appear. Now try it. Working Radio Button<INPUT TYPE="radio" name="greeting" value="hola">Working Radio Button I used hola just for fun...But anyhow, if someone selects that on your form, hola is what you'd see. If, however, you put 'male', then when someone selected that, you'd see 'male'. Now, how do the people know what their choices are for radio buttons? This is what you do... <INPUT TYPE="radio" name="SUBJECT OF BUTTONS' value="WHAT YOU SEE">WHAT THEY SEE And repeat however many times you want. An example is...
<form> That's all...It's very simple...really. Now what? Let's move on to checkboxes. Now, with these little guys, you can select as many as you want. It's basically the same as with the radio buttons, except... White Of
course, you also use the name and values...So, using the same example as
above, except with check boxes...
<form><input
type="checkbox" name="color" value="Blue">Blue Now,
what about typing text in? For this, there are two ways... <input type="text" name="howru" size="20">How are you? Again, I used the howru thing just for an example...but anyways...Mind that you DON'T NEED THE VALUE TAG! Now, you'll notice the size="20"
thing. You can change that! Like so... <input type="text" name="biggie" size="35">Big Boxie <input type="text" name="smallie" size="5">Small Boxie </form>
Okay...moving on to the next way to do text... <textarea rows="8"
cols="30">This text goes inside this lovely text box...</textarea> There is no inputty thing, neither is there any 'value' or 'name'...Instead, just think of this as something entirely different. You ALWAYS start with <textarea> Then, who knows? You can add the number of characters that you want to be able to fit horizontal-wise in your textbox like so... <textarea cols="#horizontally"> Then, you could also add the number of rows you want...(don't worry about having too little space; the scroll bar works!) <textarea cols="#horizontally" rows="#vertically"> And did I forget? You need to close with </textarea> Within the <textarea cols="?" rows="?"> and </textarea> tags, you may (but don't have to) type what you want in the textbox prior to when your visitor types. So your finished textbox in html format might look something like... <textarea cols="30" rows="5">Hello! This is my very first text box! Use it just for fun!</textarea> This
will make:
Ouch! I don't know about you, but my back sure is sore from typing! Take a minute to rest before continuing! Okay here goes. Now we've covered radio buttons, checkboxes, and both types of text areas. "Now what?" you might wonder. Well, there still is the matter of drop-down boxes, buttons, and what your form will do with the info once someone fills it out. First, drop-down boxes. These are relatively easy to make. It's just the coding that's a BIT hard... An
example is:
<select name="gender"> Now this is an example of a drop-down box. Now, it might not seem so when you test it out, but you cannot select 'Select Your Gender'. Instead, you must select either Male or Female. Now, for drop-down boxes, you start with <select> and end with </select> You can add a 'name' but it's not mandatory. Anyways...for the options, you start with <option> and end with </option> You MUST have value="VALUEHERE" Whether or not you just leave it like value="" so no one can pick that option but it's just there for seeing, or make it like value="WHAT YOU SEE" is your choice. So an example of an option might be <option value="I Am Cool">Cool</option> So that's pretty simple. Now...next! How do you make buttons? Like a Submit or Reset button? You would do that with... <input type="button" value="O.o"> Okay, so basically that buttondoes nothing :D I will let you know when I've figured out how to make it do something other than resetting or submitting... Use the form below (I'm not joking about this) Just in case you want to know how I did the buttons...I've included the HTML for the buttons (just the buttons...nothing else!) <form
action="MAILTO:myemail@email.com" method="post" enctype="text/plain"> Let's explain this bit by bit, shall we? Let's start at the beginning. You obviously start with <form right? So now the action thing...I haven't explained that yet, but I'm sure it pretty much explains itself. The 'action' tells the form what to do with the information you enter. In this particular case, it's which means the form should send the information to my email account... Now, Method="post" basically tells it to send it to you... enctype="text/plain" tells it what format you want it to be when it is in your email. You can choose either text/plain, or text/html, which I do not recommend, as it sends it in plain html! Marapets Username And are just in plain text when it appears, so there's no point explaining. The text we've already gone through previously...blah blah blah... Aha! <input type="submit" value="And Send 'er AWAY!!!"> This tells the computer that it wants a 'submit' button, which is one of two buttons that are already programmed into the computer. The other is 'reset'. 'Button' can be used, but again, I don't know how to make it do something. Now...'value'. This until the > basically tells the computer what it wants on the button.
Same applies with that one... And finally...the end </form> Now, although I hope you already understand buttons and submitting to e-mail with that brief exercise, let's review. <input type="reset"> Makes a reset button. <input type="submit"> Makes a submit button. <input type="submit" value="Submit it!"> Makes a submit button with the text 'Submit it!' on the button. <form action="MAILTO:myemail@email.com"> tells the form to e-mail all results to myemail@email.com. <form action="MAILTO:myemail@email.com" method="post" enctype="text/plain"> tells the form to e-mail all results to myemail@email.com in plain text. And that's it! Finally!

To publish your completed web, you should first have the full HTML saved somewhere. Microsoft FrontPage or Notepad is a good place to do that. Now, search on the internet for a free (or paying) web presence provider. A couple of good free ones are freewebpage.org tripod.com Anyways, make an account on the one you like, then copy and paste your HTML where they tell you to! Don't worry, it's not that hard to tell what goes where...

Graphics are anything from siggies (Marapets signatures) to club logos, profiles, and banners. To put it simply, they are images with a funky name. They're relatively easy to make once you've gotten started :D
|
Now, what do you use to make graphics? I use Microsoft Paint. Most people should have it on their computers. Open it up (if you don't know how, maramail me for help) and start on a new 'canvass'.
|
Paint has a lot of things about it that are useful, and also some that aren't useful. Here I will explain a couple of the useful ones.

MaraDodo - is dodoredofamelinda's comprehensive guide to all things marapets. It is really useful, and her other site is called dodoHelp has a lot of different sections: Introductions - is quite literally a lot of introductions to different things in marapets, such as Account Upgrades, Clubs, and much more! Programming - This is a section you have to pay to view. It is quite worth it, though, as it includes nine very carefully written sections that help you through HTML and CSS Graphics - This is also a page you must pay to view, but I daresay it is worth it! It goes through graphics making step by step...
